WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (April 20, 2024) – The ETSU baseball team dropped game two of its series at Purdue on Saturday by a score of 18-7 in seven innings. With Saturday's loss, the Bucs move to 23-13 on the 2024 campaign.
The Buccaneer offense totaled 11 hits on Saturday with four players having multi-hit performances.
Blake Jacklin with 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and two runs scored, while
Noah Gent and
Cody Miller both went 2-for-3 with a run scored and another driven in.
Tommy Barth went 2-for-4 to round out the multi-hit days for Bucs on Saturday. Additionally, the Bucs stole three bases on Saturday, which was one shy of a season-high for the team.
Purdue's offense was clicking on Saturday totaling four home runs and scored at least one run in every inning in the matchup. The Boilmakers hit their first of their four home runs in the bottom of the first to give them an early 1-0 lead. Gent, who has now driven in 20 runs in the last 12 games, got the Bucs on the board with a RBI single.
Jamie Palmese then got ETSU its first lead of the day with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.
A four-run inning by Purdue swung the momentum back in their direction. Miller drove in a run with single to close the gap to a pair of runs, 5-3, heading to the bottom of the third. However, the Boilermakers slugged three home runs in the next two innings with a pair of two-run home runs and a grand slam to gain some more breathing room.
Ryan McCarthy and
Ashton King both drove in runs in the following innings for ETSU. Jacklin's home run came in the fifth and it was his second in as many games. Purdue's big offensive day though was enough for the Boilermakers to even the series at a game a piece, 18-7.
ETSU and Purdue will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch for that contest is set for 1 p.m.
