ETSU softball welcomes Samford to Betty Basler Field

Bucs open three-game series with Bulldogs on Saturday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 19, 2024) – The ETSU softball team eyes its second straight Southern Conference series win as the Buccaneers welcome Samford to Betty Basler Field this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., while Sunday's finale is also slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.

ABOUT THE BUCS
  • ETSU is 9-27 overall and 3-9 in SoCon play
  • The Bucs are coming off a 6-1 setback at Tennessee Tech on Wednesday
  • ETSU took two of three from Mercer last weekend in Macon, Ga., marking the Bucs' first series win since winning the series over the Bears last May
  • The Bucs are searching for back-to-back SoCon series wins since 2016 when ETSU took two of three from Furman and Mercer
  • Brylee Mesusan and Faith Adams each had two-hit games Wednesday night in Cookeville
  • Mesusan, who has reached base in her last eight games, has 14 multi-hit games this season
  • Mesusan leads the team with a .350 batting average, while she also paces the Bucs in hits (43), runs (28) and stolen bases (17)
  • Riley Nayadley (.356) and Cameron Young (.350) are also hitting .350 or higher, respectively
  • Young is looking to break the single-season doubles record, set by her last year with 19 … Young has 14 this season and set the new ETSU all-time doubles record last Sunday at Mercer … Young now has 43 career doubles and broke Lindsay Lane's mark of 42, set from 2002-05
  • In the circle, Sara Muir looks to build upon her stellar start on Sunday where she retired 18 of the 19 Mercer hitters en route to leading ETSU to the 5-0 series-clinching win

  • Samford has won its last three SoCon series and enters the weekend at 14-26 overall and 7-5 in SoCon play
  • The Bulldogs boast the second-highest batting average in the SoCon (.280)
  • Samford is led by McKayla Cothran as she's hitting .346 (46-133) with four doubles, one triple, 25 runs and 13 RBI … Cothran leads the team in hits and is tied for the lead with eight stolen bases
  • Katie Campbell is the team's top power hitter as she has belted 11 home runs and driven in 40 runs
  • In the circle, Jordyn Partain leads the Bulldogs in appearances (24) and starts (21), while she's 7-13 with a 3.94 ERA (61 ER/108.1 IP) ... Sara Bond, who has made 21 appearances (eight starts) has two saves, while Karley Fuller leads the team with a 3.76 ERA (24 ER/44.2 IP) in 13 appearances (seven starts)
