ETSU softball set to take on Mercer in Macon

Three-game series starts Saturday in Georgia

MACON, Ga. (April 12, 2024) – After having its midweek doubleheader at Appalachian State postponed, the ETSU softball team is set to hit the diamond this weekend as the Buccaneers open a three-game Southern Conference series with league-leading Mercer on Saturday in Macon, Ga.

ABOUT THE BUCS
  • ETSU dropped its home SoCon series to Western Carolina last weekend in Johnson City and the Bucs are 7-25 overall and 1-8 in conference play
  • In nine SoCon games, Brylee Mesusan is 10-for-29 (.345) with four runs scored and is 3-for-3 in stolen bases
  • Overall, Mesusan leads the team with 36 hits on the season and has scored 22 runs
  • Cameron Young paces the Blue & Gold with a .360 batting average (32-89), while her 12 doubles are second among SoCon leaders
  • Mesusan, Young and Riley Nayadley have combined for 99 hits on the season
  • Whitley Arnott got the win last weekend in the circle against the Catamounts … Arnott held Western Carolina to one run on six hits with three strikeouts and zero walks in seven innings of work

  • Mercer has won six of its last eight games and sits 18-19 overall and 7-2 in league play
  • At 7-2 in the SoCon standings, Mercer is tied for first place with Chattanooga
  • The Bears have won 12 of their 16 home games this season
  • At the plate, five players are hitting over .300 with Alyssa Woods leading the charge with a .366 average … Woods also leads the team in hits (49) and stolen bases (9), while she and Tori Hedgecock – who's batting .364 – are tied for the team lead in runs scored (37)
  • Joining Woods and Hedgecock with over .300 averages are Emma Dorval (.351), Kassidy Moore (.341) and Avery Barton (.315)
  • Hedgecock has belted 17 home runs and driven in a team-best 48 runs … Hedgecock leads the SoCon in home runs, RBI, walks (40), slugging percentage (.949), on-base percentage (.552) and OPS (1.501)
  • In the circle, Mercer has four pitchers who have logged over 40 innings this season … Grace Taylor, who is 8-8 with a 3.55 ERA (44 ER/86.2 IP) in 19 appearances (12 starts), while Hannah Pitts has made the second-most starts (11) as she's 4-5 with a 3.73 ERA (33 ER/62.0 IP) in 14 appearances
SERIES HISTORY
  • Mercer leads the all-time series, 30-17
  • ETSU won the regular season series last year as the Bucs won two of the three games, including a 4-3 12-inning marathon on May 6
  • The teams met in the SoCon Tournament with Mercer winning the elimination game, 4-3
