CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (March 29, 2024) – Despite taking first-inning leads in both games on Friday, the ETSU softball team came up empty in its doubleheader at Chattanooga. The Mocs took game one 9-1 in six innings and capped off the sweep with a 13-1 five-inning victory in game two.
With the setbacks, ETSU moved to 5-21 overall and 0-5 in SoCon play, while Chattanooga improved to 23-8, 5-0.
Brylee Mesusan and
Riley Nayadley produced the run-scoring plays for the Bucs in Friday's doubleheader. In game one, Mesusan - who went 2-for-3 - led off the game with an infield single, she stole second and came home on Nayadley's double. In the second game, Mesusan reached on an error where she moved to second, and once again, scored on another RBI hit by Nayadley.
Unfortunately, ETSU's offense was held in check for the rest of day as the Bucs totaled five hits in the two games.
In the opener, Chattanooga used back-to-back four-run innings in the third and fourth to take control. In the nightcap, the Mocs did their damage in the first three frames to complete the sweep.
Taylor Suchy (0-8) started game one with
Gabrielle Fowler pitching the final 1.2 innings out of the bull pen.
Whitley Arnott (2-3) started in the circle in game two with
Kendall Thackston pitching the last 2.1 frames.
Chattanooga combined for 23 hits with five going for extra bases.
The two teams wrap up the SoCon series Saturday at 1 p.m. in Chattanooga.
