Bucs step out of conference play for pair of midweek games

ETSU to play doubleheader at Winthrop on Tuesday; Host Tennessee Tech in single game Wednesday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 25, 2024) – After opening Southern Conference play last weekend, the ETSU softball team will step out of conference for a pair of midweek matchups. The Bucs will head to South Carolina for a doubleheader at Winthrop on Tuesday, while ETSU returns home to host Tennessee Tech in a single game on Wednesday.

ABOUT THE BUCS
  • ETSU was swept by UNCG this past weekend with the Bucs moving to 4-17 on the season
  • Cameron Young returned to the lineup and hit safely in all three games … Young is now hitting .455 (25-55) with nine doubles, 10 runs and 11 RBI
  • Young leads the SoCon with the .455 average, which is 20 points higher than UNCG's Brooklyn Maxwell and 50 points better than Western Carolina's Lily Bell
  • Young ranks second nationally in doubles per game (0.64), 34th in on-base percentage (.527), 46th in batting average and 48th in doubles
  • Riley Nayadley also hit safely in all three games over the weekend versus UNCG … Nayadley belted her second home run of the season in Sunday's series finale

  • Winthrop sits 14-18 through its first 32 games of the season
  • The Eagles took two of three from Gardner-Webb over the weekend in Big South Conference play
  • Winthrop has won nine of its 13 home games this season
  • Paige Rivas leads the Eagles in hits (29), runs (20) and stolen bases (18), while Emma Jackson is hitting .326 (15-46) with seven doubles, one triple and 10 RBI
  • As a team, Winthrop is 48-for-53 in stolen bases
  • In the circle, Reese Basinger is 9-9 with a 2.37 ERA (39 ER/115.0 IP) in 19 starts … Basinger is also hitting .310 (22-71) with four doubles, seven runs and 12 RBI
  • Basinger is a first team all-Big South selection, while Winthrop was picked to finish tied for fourth in the Big South Preseason Poll
