Baseball readies for a weekend series vs. Villanova

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 14, 2024) – The ETSU baseball team will return to action this weekend with a three-game series vs. Villanova at Thomas Stadium. The series, which is sponsored by J. Ross, will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon followed by games at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Last Time Out – The Buccaneers picked up a 14-4 win over Harvard on Wednesday at Thomas Stadium. With Wednesday's victory, ETSU improves to 12-4 overall and 12-3 at home.
 
Tons of Runs at the Thom – ETSU continues to put up impressive offensive numbers in their home ballpark. Through 15 games played, the Bucs are averaging 9.5 runs scored per game. Furthermore, ETSU has scored 10 runs or more on six occasions already this season, including a 27-run outburst in the season opener vs. Lafayette.
 
Sisneros continues to slug – Cameron Sisneros continues to put up impressive hitting numbers for the Bucs. The senior first baseman is hitting .431 with five home runs and 28 RBI. Sisneros also paces the Bucs in slugging percentage (.828), walks (16), hits (25), and doubles (8). He also leads the Bucs with seven multi-hit games on the season and is on a 12-game hitting streak entering this weekend.
 
Jacklin provides a Jolt – Starting in his just second time this season, Blake Jacklin had his best day as a Buc against Harvard on Wednesday. Jacklin slugged his first ETSU home run, totaled three hits overall and drove in five runs in the contest.
 
No Hits for You – After allowing just five hits in Wednesday's win over Harvard, the Buccaneer pitching staff has lowered their hits per nine innings mark to 7.8. Additionally, the Bucs are holding opposing lineups to a .231 batting average so far this season compared to a .284-mark last season.
 
About Villanova – Villanova enters this weekend's series in Johnson City with a 5-9 record. The Wildcats, who have played all 14 of their games away from home, swept Pepperdine last weekend by scores of 7-2, 6-0, 7-1 before dropping a midweek contest to Penn on Wednesday, 8-3.

Series History vs. Villanova – ETSU and Villanova have never matched up in baseball. The Bucs have an all-time record of 23-15 all-time against the current members of the Big East Conference. The last series against a Big East foe was last season when Seton Hall took two out of three from the Bucs.
