JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 13, 2024) – The ETSU baseball team scored 12 runs through the first three innings on Wednesday to help fuel a 14-4 win over Harvard at Thomas Stadium. With Wednesday's victory, the Buccaneers improve to 12-4 on the 2024 campaign.
Leading the charge for ETSU offensively on Wednesday was the tandem of
Cameron Sisneros and
Blake Jacklin. Sisneros went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. Jacklin, meanwhile, had his best game in an ETSU uniform going 3-for-5 with three runs scored, a pair of doubles, a home run and five RBI.
Carter Fink notched his third win of the season. Fink, who started the game for the Bucs, tossed four no-hit innings and struck out seven Harvard hitters in the outing.
Landon Crumbley,
Nathan Hickman,
Sam George, and
Walker Trusley all registered scoreless appearances out of the Buccaneer bullpen as well.
After a scoreless first inning, the Bucs got on the board in the second. Jacklin launched an opposite field three-run home run to left to make the score 3-0 ETSU. The homer was Jacklin's first as a Buc.
ETSU would put the game out of reach in the third. The Bucs took advantage of Harvard's lack of control on the mound to score nine times in the stanza. The Bucs worked seven walks in the third and two others were hit by a pitch. ETSU totaled just three hits in the frame but each of them produced runs. Sisneros had two run-scoring doubles, while Jacklin drove in his fourth and fifth runs of the day on a double of his own to put ETSU up 12-0.
It looked like the Bucs may notch their first shutout of the 2024 season as the score still read 12-0 Bucs heading to the seventh. However, three hits, a pair of walks and an ETSU error led to four runs coming across the plate for the Crimson.
An RBI single from
JD Yakubinis brought ETSU's 13
th run of the day home in the seventh before
Ryan McCarthy walked the game off in the eighth inning on a triple to give the Bucs the 14-4 win due to the run rule.
ETSU will be back in action this weekend when it starts a three-game series against Villanova. Game one of the three-game set is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. from Thomas Stadium.
