Bucs continue home stand with weekend series against Robert Morris

ETSU, Robert Morris to play back-to-back doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday
  
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 28, 2024) – Coming off a split with Appalachian State Tuesday night, the ETSU softball team continues its home stand as the Buccaneers gear up for a four-game series with Robert Morris this weekend. The teams will play back-to-back doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday from Betty Basler Field.

ABOUT THE BUCS
  • Following Tuesday's split over Appalachian State, the Bucs sit 3-9 on the season
  • The Bucs took the opener 6-2 thanks to plating five runs in the third inning, while falling 1-0 in a pitchers' duel in game two
  • Three Buccaneers are batting over .400 with Cameron Young hitting a team-best .450 (18-40) … Young recorded her team-leading seventh double of the season on Tuesday … The Buccaneer third baseman also has seven walks, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored
  • Riley Nayadley (.419) and Sara Muir (.405) are also hitting over .400 … The Buccaneer duo have combined for 28 hits in 68 at-bats to go along with three doubles, two home runs, 16 RBI and 10 runs scored
  • ETSU ranks second in the SoCon in batting average (.288) and doubles (18)
  • Sara Muir has led ETSU in the circle as she has accounted for the three wins, while Taylor Suchy – who pitched game two of Tuesday's doubleheader with Appalachian State – leads the Bucs in innings (28.1), appearances (10) and strikeouts (16)
ABOUT ROBERT MORRIS
  • Robert Morris has dropped eight of its first nine games to start the season
  • The Colonials' lone win came in their season opener, which was a 4-3 victory over George Mason in Spartanburg
  • This marks Robert Morris' third Southern Conference team as the Colonials have played Wofford and UNCG
  • Kaylyn Hopf leads the team with a .357 batting average, while Alaina Koutsogiani is hitting .320 (8-25) with one double, two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored
  • Madison DeVault is 1-4 with a 4.94 ERA (16 ER/22.2 IP) and has a team-best 19 strikeouts
  • As a team, Robert Morris is being outscored, 56-23 on the season
SERIES HISTORY
  • ETSU and Robert Morris have met once back on Feb. 21, 2003 in Charlotte, N.C.
  • The Bucs won that matchup, 11-3 in the Charlotte First Pitch Classic
  • ETSU scored nine unanswered runs to secure the eight-run victory … Janine Sprague went 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Tiffany McVay picked up the win in circle after allowing the three runs with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.
