ETSU fell in its season opener to No. 9 NC State. Freshman guard Carmen Richardson and senior guard Braylyn Milton each scored 12 to lead the Bucs in Raleigh.

ETSU returns four players from the 2023-24 squad – senior guard Kendall Folley, 5th year guard Courtney Moore, junior forward Meghan Downing and sophomore guard Brecken Snotherly.

The Bucs added four transfers to complement the returners. Graduate forward Isabella Hunt joins ETSU from Mt. St. Mary's, Milton comes to Johnson City from Cincinnati, junior guard Gemma Grüttner Bacoul joins the Bucs after two years at McCook CC and redshirt junior guard Paige Lyons heads to Johnson City from Wagner.

A quintet of freshmen joined the squad for the 2024-25 season: Richardson, guard Lucy Hood, guard Kaylee Carson, guard Jaidyn Harper and forward Kennedy Younkin.

Jackson State returns no players from its 2023-24 team. The Tigers fell 78-44 in their season opener to Clemson. JSU shot 27.9% from the field and went 4-18 (22%) from 3-point range. They did notch 11 steals and recorded three blocks on the road.

The two squads have spots of familiarity, despite having never met on the court before. Rakisha Ballinger played with Lyons at Wagner before transferring to JSU. Additionally, Jaileyah Cotton played at ETSU before transferring to JSU.

Of JSU's fully turned-over roster, three players transferred from D1 schools (Ballinger, Cotton and Cooper – New Orleans), Ruthie Mbugua is the lone D2 transfer (Carson Newman), four players are junior college transfers, three are NAIA transfers, and two are freshmen.

Saturday's matchup will mark the first all-time between ETSU and Jackson State.
