Bucs fall to Fighting Camels

Scoring droughts doom ETSU in loss

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Nov. 19, 2024) – East Tennessee State University women's basketball dropped to 1-4 after falling 58-51 to Campbell in Buies Creek on Tuesday.

The Bucs were led by fifth year guard Courtney Moore, who tallied a season-high 13 points on 4-for-7 shooting from 3-point range. The Fighting Camels shot 11-for-35 from 3-point distance as a team. Olivia Tucker scored 24 for Campbell on 5-for-8 shooting from behind the arc, and Courtney Dalhquist added 17.

Campbell jumped out to an early 17-3 lead before ETSU clawed its way back in the game to trail 27-23 at halftime. The Bucs used 45% shooting from behind the arc to keep the game competitive, as Campbell attempted 11 more shots and outrebounded the Bucs by seven over the course of the game.

Turnovers and scoring droughts kept ETSU's from closing the gap faster than it did, as Campbell scored 11 points off 17 Bucs' turnovers. ETSU had multiple four minute scoring droughts in the first half, didn't score in the last two minutes of the second or third quarter, and had another four minute scoring drought in the final quarter.

ETSU took a brief 44-43 lead in the fourth quarter on a jumper from freshman guard Carmen Richardson. However, Campbell immediately went on an 8-0 run and did not relinquish the lead, ultimately winning 58-51.
