Bucs take on Furman in quarterfinal match Friday night in Birmingham

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 28, 2024) – With the 2024 regular season coming to an end on Sunday, the 2024 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship bracket is now set.

ETSU's road to a first-ever conference tournament title will begin Friday night in Birmingham, Ala., when the sixth-seeded Buccaneers take on the third-seeded Furman Paladins. Game time is set for 8 p.m. ET at Samford's Shauna Yelton Field.

The Bucs finished the regular season with an overall record of 4-7-4 and a 3-3-3 mark in league play. Over ETSU's last three matches, the Bucs went 1-0-2 with a win over VMI and draws with the top two teams – Western Carolina and Samford. Furman went 9-6-3 in regular season play and finished 5-2-2 in the SoCon.

ETSU and Furman have met 20 times in series history, but only two of the stints came in postseason play. The Paladins won 3-0 in 2002 in Greensboro, N.C. and 2-1 in 2017 in Greenville, S.C.

The other teams in the Samford pod include No. 7 UNCG vs. No. 10 The Citadel – who play Tuesday night to determine who plays No. 2 Samford in Friday's first quarterfinal match. The ETSU-Furman winner will take on the winter of UNCG/Citadel vs. Samford in Sunday's semifinal at 2 p.m. ET.

On the other side of the bracket, Western Carolina earned the No. 1 seed after capturing its second straight regular season crown. The reigning tournament champions will take on the winner of Wofford-VMI in Friday's quarterfinal at 7 p.m. No. 4 Mercer and No. 5 Chattanooga meet in the first quarterfinal match on Friday at 4 p.m. in Cullowhee.

The championship will be played either Saturday, Nov. 9 or Sunday, Nov. 10 at the highest remaining seed.
