BIRMIGNHAM, Ala. (Oct. 19, 2025) - All good things must come to an end.
The ETSU women's soccer team's historic 12-game unbeaten streak ended in a 3-0 loss to SoCon-leading Samford on Sunday at Shauna Yelton Field.
The Bulldogs (9-2-5, 6-0-2) opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Jessica Askey sailed a cross in from the right side toward star forward Sam De Luca at the top of the box. De Luca flicked a header forward for Mamie Carman who split the center backs and banked the ball in off the left post to put the Bulldogs in front of the visiting Buccaneers (8-3-6, 3-1-4)
ETSU had a glimpse at an equalizer in the 24th, when
Reagan Fitzgerald gets on the end of a
Grace Eatz corner from the goalkeeper's left, only for Peyton Hull to make a leaping save and hang onto ETSU's best chance of the half.
The Bulldogs added to their lead moments into the second half. Sarah Holland got free on the right wing and sent a low, hard-driven cross across the face of goal.
Ainsley Parker stuck her left foot out for an attempted redirection to end the threat, but the ball caromed off the freshman and into her own goal to put the game out of reach.
Samford put an exclamation point on their regular season title in the 78th minute when Avery Stevens found Martha Bishop unmarked on a free kick from just beyond the midfield stripe and Bishop calmly headed the ball behind her into the back left corner of the net.
Samford outshot ETSU 15-11 and put 11 shots on goal to six for the Bucs. Eatz led ETSU with five shots, and Eatz and
Taryn Childers had two shots on goal each.
Addison Yelton made a career-high eight saves in the loss.
Samford's win secures at least a share of the regular season title, while the loss locks ETSU out of the top two seeds in the 2025 SoCon Women's Soccer Championship. The Bucs can clinch the third seed with a win over VMI on senior day next Sunday, October 26, at 2:00pm.
