JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct 11, 2024) – East Tennessee State University volleyball was swept 3-0 (14-25, 19-25, 22-25) by Wofford in Johnson City on Friday.
The Bucs (10-7, 2-3 SoCon) were led by senior outside hitter
Amanda Lowe, who tallied a nine hitting with six digs.
ETSU won the first four points of the opening set, but the Terriers (12-5, 4-1 SoCon) quickly seized momentum, rattling off a 12-2 run to take a lead that they would not relinquish. Bri Mahoney had two of her four aces in the set, and Wofford tallied three blocks as a team for the 25-14 set victory.
The second set proceeded in a similar fashion for the Bucs. Despite initially ceding a 5-1 lead, sophomore setter
Enisilina Savelio served ETSU to a 9-7 lead. The Blue & Gold were unable to hold the lead, as Annemarie Rakoski broke a 12-12 tie and the Terriers closed the set with a 25-19 victory. Mahoney posted five kills and eight of her 12 digs in the set for Wofford.
The Bucs showed fight in the final set. After playing to a 6-6 tie, Wofford took leads of 12-7 and 18-9, both of which led to ETSU timeouts. Following the latter, the Bucs were able to string together a 12-3 run, closed by a 5-0 sprint behind the service of freshman outside hitter
Makayla Bays to draw the match within a point at 21-20. However, Wofford got a kill from Natalie Arnold to stave off the ETSU rally, and won the set and match 25-22.
Next, ETSU travels to Chattanooga at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17. For more information on Buccaneer volleyball, follow @ETSUVolleyball on X (Twitter) and Instagram, and visit ETSUBucs.com.
