Bucs visit Presbyterian in Saturday night clash

CLINTON, S.C. (Sept. 15, 2023) –?After a week of dancing between lightning strikes to get a game in, the weather and the way to Clinton are clear for ETSU men's soccer as they visit the Presbyterian Blue Hose for the second consecutive year. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Martin Stadium in Clinton, South Carolina.

ABOUT THE BUCS  

  • ETSU got itself back on the winning track with a 2-0 victory over Radford on Wednesday. Chris McKenna (Glasgow, Scotland) scored off a free kick in the 19th minute, and David Kovacic (Krsko, Slovenia) scored off a corner in the 23rd minute to give ETSU a decisive advantage.
  • Kovacic's goal came on his fourth and final shot of the match. It was his first goal as a Buccaneer, and his first goal in college competition since October 18, 2019, when he scored for Maryland against Indiana.
  • McKenna's marker was also his first as a Buccaneer and his sixth in his last six career starts, dating back to November 19, 2022, when he scored the game-winner for the University of Mobile in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament. It marks the first goal scored by a defender in the David Lilly
  • With an assist on Kovacic's goal, winger Gabriel Ramos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) moved into a tie for eighth in school history with eight career assists. He is tied with Bruno Andrade (2017-19), b (2009-12), and Colin Pugh (2010-12). 
  • Goalkeeper Marc Kouadio (Montreal, Canada) recorded his first shutout as a Buccaneer. Kouadio's effort contributed to ETSU's SoCon-leading 1.00 goals against average. Kouadio ranks fifth in the SoCon in saves per game (3.00) and third in save percentage (.750), trailing only teammate Cole Hunter (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) and Mercer's Trevor McMullen in the latter category. 

ABOUT PRESBYTERIAN 

  • The Blue Hose have played just four matches this season, and just three against Division I opponents. Their last contest was September 9, a 1-0 win over VMI in Lexington,
  • PC was picked fourth in the Big South preseason poll with three preseason All-Big South selections: forward Nile Nguidjol, midfielder Carson Griffith, and midfielder Lorenzo Nagy.
  • Presbyterian is led in scoring by freshman Victor Faaborg Christiensen, who scored a hat trick against Southern Wesleyan and assisted on the lone goal in PC's win over VMI last Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY 

  • This is the fifth meeting between ETSU and Presbyterian. The Buccaneers own a 2-1-1 record against the Blue Hose and are 0-1-1 in Clinton.
  • ETSU lost the last meeting on September 9, 2022, a 2-0 defeat at Martin Stadium in Clinton.
  • The Bucs' last win against the Blue Hose came September 17, 2019, at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Kieran Richards (Hamilton, New Zealand) scored at exactly 58 minutes to kick off a rush of three goals in 12 minutes' time to rout PC, 3-0.
