2024 SCHEDULE
Â
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 11, 2023) – ETSU head baseball coach Joe Pennucci officially released the team's 2024 schedule on Monday. The 2024 slate for the Bucs consists of 53 games, including 29 slated to be played at Thomas Stadium. The 2024 season will get underway for ETSU on Feb. 16-18 with a home series vs. Lafayette.
Â
The 2023 Buccaneers compiled a record of 26-29 overall that included a 10-11 mark in SoCon play.
Â
"This year's schedule gives us an opportunity to play some high-level baseball programs," said Pennucci. "We have a good mix of returners and newcomers and I am eager to see them take the field!"
PLENTY OF HOME GAMES TO START THE SEASON
For the 14th season in a row, ETSU baseball will play its season opener in Johnson City. The Bucs will kick off the 2024 campaign with their three-game set with Lafayette. Furthermore, 18 of ETSU's first 19 games of the season will be played at Thomas Stadium. Following its series with the Leopards, ETSU will host Rider (Feb. 23-25), Appalachian State (Feb. 27), Wagner (Mach 1-3), Binghamton (March 5), James Madison (March 8-10), Harvard (March 12) and Villanova (March 15-17) during this stretch to start the 2024 campaign.
POWER CONFERENCE MATCHUPS
ETSU will play a pair of teams from the SEC this spring. The Bucs will make the trip to Knoxville to take on Tennessee on February 21. On May 1, ETSU will travel to take on South Carolina. ETSU will also have a midweek matchup against Virginia Tech on March 19 and have a three-game series at Purdue on April 19-21.
MIDWEEK REGIONAL GAMES
As mentioned earlier, the Bucs will host Appalachian State on February 27. ETSU will make a return trip to Boone on April 23. The Buccaneers will have home-and-home midweek matchups against Radford and UNC Asheville from the Big South. ETSU will host the Highlanders and Bulldogs on April 17 and April 2, respectively, before making return trips to those two schools on April 9 and May 8. Â
CLOSING THE SEASON IN OHIO
ETSU will close out its regular season with a trip to Ohio to take on Miami (OH) on May 16-18. The Buccaneers will be making their first trip to Ohio since they clashed with the Redhawks during the 2017 season. In that series, ETSU won two of the three games.
SOUTHERN CONFERENCE SLATE
The 21-game Southern Conference schedule will begin for ETSU on March 22-24 when it visits Western Carolina. The Buccaneers will also travel to UNC Greensboro (March 28-30), Samford (April 12-14) and Wofford (May 10-12) during conference play. ETSU's first home conference series will be against Mercer (April 5-7) followed by three-game sets against The Citadel (April 26-28) and VMI (May 3-5).
SOCON TOURNAMENT AT FLUOR FIELD
The Southern Conference Baseball Championship is scheduled for May 22-26 at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. The 2024 tournament will mark the seventh straight time that Fluor Field has hosted, excluding the 2020 season which was canceled due to COVID-19. The stadium is home to the Greenville Drive — the High-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox — and is designed as a mini-replica of Boston's Fenway Park.Â
