Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls at Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Nov. 26, 2023) – The ETSU women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday as Miami defeated the Buccaneers, 68-44. With Sunday's setback, the Bucs move to 4-2 on the 2023-24 campaign, while the Hurricanes remain unbeaten (5-0).

No Buccaneer scored in double figures on Sunday. Nevaeh Brown led ETSU with nine points. Kendall Folley added eight points, four assists and two steals, while Jakhyia Davis paced the Buccaneers in rebounding with six in the contest.

As Sunday's game began, neither team had much luck finding the bottom of the net. Most of ETSU's offense early on came via 3-pointers. Brecken Snotherly knocked one down to give the Bucs an 11-10 lead with 3:33 to go in the first quarter. However, the Hurricanes put together a 9-1 run to close out the quarter and build a seven-point lead on ETSU, 19-12.

ETSU had its opportunities to cut into Miami's lead in the second quarter. The Bucs had twice as many field goal attempts as Miami (16 to eight) in the second frame. However, Miami was much more efficient than ETSU going 5-for-8 from the field compared to 4-for-16 for the Bucs. The disparity in shooting led to the Hurricanes holding a 13-point lead after two quarters, 34-21.

Miami's defense continued to hinder ETSU's offense as the second half began. The Bucs were outscored 16-6 in the third and went 2-for-16 from the field. Miami, meanwhile, reeled off a 13-0 run at one point to expand its lead even more. The Hurricanes, which went 6-for-9 from the field (4-for-6 from 3-point range), took a 50-27 lead into the final quarter.

The Hurricanes built their lead to as many as 26 points midway through the fourth quarter, 60-34, before eventually closing out their fifth straight win, 68-44. ETSU nearly matched Miami's point total from the final frame (17 for ETSU, 18 for Miami) thanks in large part to a 12-for-15 effort from the free throw line.

ETSU will return home on Thursday to host Lipscomb at Brooks Gym. Tip-off between the Buccaneers and Bisons is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
