BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 7, 2023) – The ETSU volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback on the road at Samford on Saturday night (26-24, 25-13, 25-11) in Southern Conference action.
Stat Standouts – Jenna Forster paced the Bucs offensively on Saturday with a team-high eight kills.
Malgorzata Andersohn finished one dig away from a double-double with 16 assists and nine digs.
Jasmal Cruz chipped in seven digs and surpassed the 1,500-dig plateau in her collegiate career.
Set 1 – The first set on Saturday was very competitive between the Bucs and Bulldogs. 15 different tied points and five lead changes led to a back-and-forth stanza. Samford led by four points, 21-17, but the Bucs reeled off four straight points to tie it at 21. The score was tied again at 24. However, back-to-back kills from Samford gave the opening frame to the Bulldogs.
Set 2 – Samford continued to hold the momentum going into the second set. The Bulldogs got out to a 6-0 lead before the Buccaneers got on the scoreboard. ETSU briefly cut the deficit to five points before Samford kept things rolling and eventually won the frame, 25-13.
Set 3 – As good as Samford was in the second set, they were that much better in the third. The Bulldog offense was firing on all cylinders as they notched a kill (13) in over half of their attack attempts (24). The hot-hitting Bulldog offense went on to take the final set, 25-11.
