SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 7, 2026) – ETSU men's tennis player Oscar Martinez was named the Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. It is the sixth time this season that Martinez has earned this accolade and the eighth time overall that a Buccaneer has been recognized with this honor this spring.
 
Martinez posted a perfect 2-0 mark in both singles and doubles action last week as No. 60 ETSU picked up wins over Chattanooga and Furman. Martinez picked up singles victories over Chattanooga's Jakub Jupa (6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 10-7) and Furman's Nico Snyder (6-3, 6-3). In doubles, Martinez paired with Martin Vergara to earn doubles victories over UTC's pair of Jupa and Cortland Grove (6-3) and Furman's duo of Snyder and Nicolas Dispas (6-1). With those wins, Martinez is now 17-1 in singles this spring. In doubles, Martinez and Vergara are 13-2. 
 
Martinez and the rest of the Buccaneers will return to action on Wednesday when they visit The Citadel for their regular season finale. With a win, ETSU will clinch the SoCon Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed for next week's SoCon Men's Tennis Tournament. First serve between the Bucs and Bulldogs is set for 2 p.m.
