SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Apr. 22, 2026) – However one might define a "sophomore slump,"
Micailah Cook has done the complete opposite.
The second-year sprinter took home SoCon Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 21, 2026, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. This is the second outdoor weekly award for Cook and the third of her career overall between indoor and outdoor track and field.
Cook set the ETSU record by running the 400m sprint in 53.76 seconds at the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday, surpassing Jasmine Ingram's 54.15 from 2011. She finished second in the 400m after finishing second in the 200m sprint on Thursday with a personal best time of 23.88 seconds.
The SoCon's reigning Outdoor Most Outstanding Track Performer and Freshman of the Year currently holds the SoCon's fastest times this season in the 100m, 200m, and 400m sprints, having set the latter two in Winston-Salem late last week and setting the top 100m mark at the VertKlasse Meeting on April 2 at 11.55 seconds.
Cook and the Bucs return to action this weekend at the Catamount Classic in Cullowhee, North Carolina, the final full-squad meet before the 2026 SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Championships, also in Cullowhee.
