JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 1, 2026) – The No. 60 ETSU men's tennis team will look to keep its stellar play rolling on Thursday when it welcomes in-state rival Chattanooga to Johnson City. First serve between the Bucs and Mocs is set for 2 p.m. Additionally, the Bucs will honor their three seniors
Peter Kalocsai,
James Sim, and
Martin Vergara between the doubles and singles matches on Thursday.
ETSU has been one of the hottest teams in all of college tennis this season with a 16-3 overall record, including a 4-0 mark in SoCon play. The Bucs' 16 consecutive wins is the second-longest in the country this season behind only Wake Forest, which has won 18 in a row. ETSU's 16-match winning streak is the longest for any Buccaneer team since 2005 when that squad reeled off 18 in a row. Furthermore, if the Bucs can knock off the Mocs on Thursday, it'll clinch the second consecutive season that Bucs have been undefeated at home.
A key part in ETSU's stellar season has been the play of
Oscar Martinez. Martinez has earned SoCon Player of the Week five times and boasts a singles record of 15-1 this spring. Martinez has also paired with Vergara for a stellar 11-2 record in doubles. For their play, Martinez and Vergara are ranked No. 71 in the latest ITA National Doubles Rankings.
Chattanooga, meanwhile, is 9-10 overall and 3-2 in SoCon play this season. The Mocs' record, however, could look vastly different as they have dropped five matches by close 4-3 final scores.
Since 2001, the Bucs have held the edge against the Mocs winning 18 of the previous 20 matchups. Chattanooga's last win over the Bucs came in 2023 and its last victory over ETSU in Johnson City was in 2001.
