SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 24, 2026) – ETSU men's tennis player Oscar Martinez was named the Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. It is the fourth time this season that Martinez has earned this accolade in 2026 and the fifth time overall that a Buccaneer has been recognized with this honor this spring.
 
Martinez led the charge for the ETSU men's tennis team last week as it picked up road wins at Florida Gulf Coast (6-1) and No. 71 FAU (4-1). In doubles, Martinez paired with Martin Vergara to go 2-0 on the week with victories by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Martinez also played well in singles action winning his two tilts by scores of 7-5, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Martinez and Vergara are now 10-2 in doubles and as a singles player Martinez is 13-1 this spring. 
 
Martinez and the rest of the Buccaneers will return to action on March 27 when they host Wofford in SoCon action. That match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
