Bucs Edge No. 42 Charlotte, 4-3, to Extend Their Winning Streak to Nine

Bucs’ winning streak now includes a win over a nationally-ranked opponent

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 1, 2026) – The ETSU men's tennis team began the month of March with a 4-3 victory over No. 42 Charlotte on Sunday afternoon in Johnson City. The victory was not only ETSU's ninth in a row but it also boosts its record to 9-3 on the 2026 campaign.

The Bucs had to battle back on Sunday as the 49ers jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to securing the doubles point. Despite ETSU dropping the point, it was competitive falling by scores of 7-5 and 7-6 (7-5) with the third tilt being stopped with the score tied at 6-6.

Moving onto singles, Kai Cowcher and Peter Kalocsai both tallied wins to give ETSU its first lead of the match, 2-1. However, the 49ers rallied with victories from Ivan Dreycopp and Moritz Muenster to put them on the doorstep of finishing off the match. With their backs against the wall, the Bucs grinded out a pair of three-set wins from Carlos Gonzales and Oscar Martinez to overcome the deficit and come away with the 4-3 victory. The match-clinching win also keeps Martinez's singles record this spring unblemished at a perfect 9-0.
