JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 6, 2026) – Riding a four-match winning streak, the ETSU men's tennis team will return to action on Sunday when it hosts Presbyterian in non-conference action. First serve between the Buccaneers and Blue Hose is set for 2 p.m.
After beginning the season 0-3 with losses to No. 3 Wake Forest and Tennessee (twice), the Bucs have rebounded with four straight wins over Eastern Kentucky (4-3), Tusculum (7-0), DePaul (5-2), and VCU (4-3). The tandem of
Oscar Martinez and
Martin Vergara has played a key role in ETSU's recent winning ways. The duo was ranked as the No. 84 doubles pairing in the country earlier this week in the ITA National Rankings. Martinez and Vergara are the only duo from the SoCon to appear in the rankings. Martinez (twice) and Vergara have also earned each SoCon Player of the Week award so far this season.
Presbyterian currently boasts an undefeated record (2-0). PC has tallied a pair of 7-0 victories over Emmanuel and Queens (N.C.) in the early going. Before the Blue Hose make the trip to Johnson City, they will have their toughest test of the season to date with a road match at No. 14 South Carolina.
Sunday will mark the third ever meeting between the Bucs and the Blue Hose. ETSU has won the previous two matchups by identical scores of 6-1. Furthermore, the Bucs will aim to keep their stellar play at home rolling as they have won 10 consecutive home matches dating back to 2024. ETSU's last loss in Johnson City was against Elon on February 29, 2024 (708 days ago).
