JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 16, 2026) – The ETSU men's tennis team will look to continue building momentum this week with a pair of road matches at UAB on Tuesday and at Belmont on Friday. Tuesday's match is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. eastern time, while Friday's clash against the Bruins is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. eastern time.
Following a 0-3 start, the Buccaneers have reeled off five consecutive wins against Eastern Kentucky, Tusculum, DePaul, VCU, and Presbyterian. The Bucs have the only doubles team nationally-ranked by the ITA in the SoCon in
Oscar Martinez and
Martin Vergara (No. 84). Counting the results from the fall, Martinez and Vergara have a record of 20-3 when playing together.
The Blazers will bring a 2-3 record into Tuesday's match with the Bucs. UAB has wins over Tennessee State and Auburn Montgomery this season with setbacks against Memphis, Ole Miss, and Middle Tennessee State. Belmont, meanwhile, is currently 2-5 with victories over Austin Peay and Alabama A&M. Four of Belmont's five losses have come against power conference programs.
ETSU is 4-5 all-time against UAB with the last matchup coming in 2022. The Bucs have won four straight against the Blazers, however, by scores of 4-2, 4-3, 5-2, and 7-0. As for the series against Belmont, ETSU has won 10 of 11 matches against the Bruins, including a 4-2 victory last season in Johnson City.
