Jarvis Johnson Named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week

Johnson totaled a team-high 13 tackles in Saturday’s win over Chattanooga

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 5, 2026) – The Southern Conference announced that ETSU's Jarvis Johnson was named the Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. It is the third consecutive week that a Buc has earned a weekly award from the conference. Johnson joins Mike Jenkins (Defensive – Sept. 21) and Ewan Johnson (Special Teams (Sept. 28) as ETSU players that have earned a weekly award from the league this season.

Johnson helped ETSU's defense put together one of its best performances in recent memory as the Bucs downed Chattanooga, 14-3. Johnson finished the afternoon with 13 total tackles (two for loss) in the win. The 13 stops were the most by an ETSU defender this season. The three points allowed by the Bucs on Saturday were the fewest by the team in a SoCon game since football returned and the fewest ETSU has allowed in a conference game since September 16, 2000, against VMI (three as well).

Johnson and the rest of the Bucs will return to action this Saturday when they visit The Citadel. Kickoff between the Bucs and Bulldogs is set for 2 p.m.
