JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 4, 2026) - The ETSU women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Samford on Sunday at Summers-Taylor Stadium, snapping their winning streak at four games and their unbeaten streak at five.
The Buccaneers (7-4-1, 4-1-0) were stout on defense, as were the Bulldogs (6-3-4, 3-0-1), and chances in the first half were scarce. An apparent Samford goal by Martha Bishop on a header in the final 30 seconds of the half was called back for offside, and the two teams went 45 minutes with nothing separating them.
The Bulldogs won the game in the space of 11 minutes in the second half. In the 59th, Mamie Carman got the ball in the middle of a three-on-two rush and drifted a pass toward Becca Koenig on the left side of the box, who burst forward and drilled the ball on the second touch into the back post. Brinley Murphy added a goal in the 70th minute with a skimming header off a free kick by Caroline Smith to seal the win for the Bulldogs.
ETSU outshot Samford 6-5, but the Bulldogs had five shots on goal to the Bucs' one. ETSU slips to 1-13-3 all-time against Samford in women's soccer.
The Bucs will play three of their next four contests on the road beginning with VMI on October 11. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Lexington.
