Bucs, Terriers Square Off With First Place At Stake

ETSU appears on national TV to start second half of SoCon schedule

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 31, 2026) – An extra 29-hour delay does little to dim the hype of a first-place clash in the SoCon.

The ETSU men's basketball team visits Wofford on Sunday night with first place in the conference on the line. Tip time is 7:00pm, and the game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.

MATCHUP: ETSU (15-7, 7-2) at Wofford (15-7, 7-2)
DATE: February 1, 2026, 7:00pm
VENUE: Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium (Spartanburg, SC)
TV: CBS Sports Network (Dave Friedman, Dean Keener)
RADIO: WXSM-AM 640 (Jay Sandos

The Bucs are looking for a bounce-back effort after losing 90-88 at home to Western Carolina on Thursday. Brian Taylor II had a career-high 24 points in the contest, which ETSU never led. Despite the high score against, the Bucs remain the SoCon's leading scoring defense (67.3) and field goal defense (41.2%), and they also lead the league in field goal percentage (49.1%).

An eleventh-hour coaching change before the season began has not dimmed the reigning SoCon champions under former Terrier Kevin Giltner, who was hired September 22. Sophomore guard Kahmare Holmes has broken out in a massive way, averaging 19 points per game and scoring 20 or more in seven SoCon games so far, including 36 against Samford on January 21. UCF transfer Nils Machowski averages 16.4 points per game and has a pair of 30-point performances, at The Citadel on January 3 and at Mercer on January 3.

This is the 64th meeting between ETSU and Wofford in men's basketball, a series that dates to the late 1950s. ETSU leads the series 43-20, but the Terriers own the most recent win in the series, a 72-60 victory in the SoCon tournament quarterfinals last year that kick-started a championship run.
