SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 27, 2026) – ETSU men's tennis player Martin Vergara was named the Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Vergara joins fellow Buccaneer Oscar Martinez that have earned SoCon Player of the Week honors this season.
 
Vergara played a key role in ETSU's 7-0 shutout win over Tusculum last Friday. The native of Paraguay helped the Bucs clinch the doubles point with partner Kai Cowcher with a 7-6 win. Following that performance, Vergara won a 7-5, 6-2 match against Tusculum's Romain Payan to seal the victory for the Blue and Gold.
 
Vergara and the rest of the Bucs will return to the court this Saturday when they take on DePaul in a neutral site match in Richmond, Virginia. First serve for that match is set for Noon.
