SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 20, 2026) – ETSU men's tennis player Oscar Martinez was named the Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.  
 
Through four matches, Martinez boasts a 2-0 record in singles and has compiled a 3-0 mark in doubles with partner Martin Vergara. Martinez picked up a 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) win over Tennessee's Dragos Cazacu to begin the 2026 campaign before earning a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Eastern Kentucky's Nuno Pinheiro. Meanwhile in doubles, Martinez and Vergara entered the season ranked No. 61 in the ITA National Poll. During their first week of action, the duo from ETSU earned doubles wins at Tennessee (7-6 (7-4) & 6-3) and another 7-5 triumph over EKU's Ilie Cazac and Nuno Pinheiro. Counting the results from the fall, Martinez is 19-2 in singles and 19-3 in doubles as a Buccaneer.
 
Martinez and the rest of the Bucs will be back in action on Friday when they host Tusculum. First serve for that match is set for 2 p.m.
