Men's Soccer falls to no. 13 Bulldogs

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Gardner-Webb (5-0-0, 0-0-0), currently ranked No. 13, secured a 3-0 victory over East Tennessee State University (0-4-0, 0-0-0) at Greene-Harbison Field with all three goals scored in the second half.

The first half saw a strong defensive performance from ETSU, with goalkeeper Holmberg making three crucial saves by the 39th minute to keep the score level. Despite multiple fouls committed by ETSU, including two by Jaime Carrillo, the team managed to hold their ground against Gardner-Webb's offensive attempts. Isaac took ETSU's only shot of the half, as both teams entered halftime tied at 0-0.

The second half began with ETSU's Holmberg making a crucial save from a shot by Gardner-Webb's Franco Ocana at the 50:46 mark. Despite Holmberg's efforts, Ocana found the net in the 53rd minute, and Jaylen Orr extended Gardner-Webb's lead with a goal in the 57th minute, assisted by Ocana. ETSU's Idlibi attempted to shift the momentum with a shot in the 64th minute, but it was saved, and Gardner-Webb scored again through Javan Ochieng in the 68th minute to finalize the score at 3-0.

Emil Holmberg recorded six saves in the match for the Bucs. Nicola Brocca contributed by registering one shot on goal. Stanley Isaac and Zayd Idlibi each added a shot to the team's efforts, although neither found the back of the net.

In their next game, the Buccaneers will host Radford at Summers-Taylor Stadium in Johnson City, Tenn. The match kicks off at 6 p.m. on September 10.
