THINGS TO KNOW – Please click
HERE for all the "Things to Know" for Saturday's matchup with the Phoenix, presented by Citizens Bank.
TURNING THE TIDE WITH TURNOVERS – ETSU has forced seven turnovers this season, the fifth-most in the FCS. Only Tarleton State (14), Marist (10), Eastern Kentucky (9), Nicholls (8), and Southern Illinois (8) have more.
MILESTONE REACHED - ETSU's other quarterback
Cade McNamara threw for 76 yards and went 9-for-13 in the contest. With those 76 yards, McNamara has now thrown for over 5,000 yards in his collegiate career.
NON-CONFERENCE NOTE – Saturday will be the final non-conference game of the regular season for ETSU. Since rejoining the SoCon for the 2016 season, the Bucs are 19-13 against non-conference foes. If ETSU comes away with the win, it'll be the eighth time in nine seasons that the Blue and Gold have compiled a record of .500 or better outside of league action with the lone exception being 2023.
SCORING IN SEPTEMBER HOME GAMES – ETSU closes September with two home games. Since 2021, the Bucs average 39.9 points in home games during September.
SPREAD OUT THE SCORING – Eight different Buccaneers have scored touchdowns through three games.
Devontae Houston leads the team with three, while
Jason Albritton and
Khalil Eichelberger both have reached the end zone twice so far in 2025.
ABOUT ELON – Elon enters Saturday's clash with ETSU sporting a 2-1 record after back-to-back wins over Davidson (55-7) and Western Carolina (37-31). The 2-1 start by the Phoenix is their best start since 2022. Elon's passing game relies on big chunk plays. Elon is averaging 17.76 yards per completion so far this season, which ranks behind only No. 1 North Dakota State's mark of 18.15 among FCS squads. Defensively, Elon has been able to get to the opposing quarterback with nine sacks through its first three games. The nine sacks are tied for the third-most in the FCS and ranks only behind Valparaiso (11), Tarleton State (10), Sacramento State (10), Rhode Island (10), and North Dakota State (10).
SERIES REWIND AGAINST THE PHOENIX - Saturday will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the Bucs and Phoenix. ETSU has won three of the previous four matchups, including a 34-14 win on the Phoenix's home field last September. ETSU scored 17 points in the first 10 minutes of that matchup and had a balanced offensive attack with 256 rushing yards and 233 more through the air. In that game in 2002, former Buc Cecil Moore caught a school record four touchdown passes in a 31-15 win for ETSU. Saturday's clash at Greene Stadium will mark Elon's first trip to Johnson City since October 19, 2002.
