ETSU enters SoCon play riding a four-game winning streak, their first since 2018. The Bucs scored four times in eight minutes on Thursday to wallop Radford 4-2 at Summers-Taylor Stadium in their final non-conference tilt.
Jada Cooper had a goal and two assists, while
Sadie Commerford added her first collegiate goal and an assist as well.
Reagan Fitzgerald scored twice, earning SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Fitzgerald is one of the nation's top goal scorers. Entering the week, she ranked eighth in the country in total goals (7), led the nation in game-winning goals (5), and led the SoCon in goals outright. Her seven goals are tied with
Sinoxolo Cesane's 2023 output for the most goals scored by one player in one season under
Jay Yelton. Since her career began in 2023, ETSU is 10-1-1 when Fitzgerald scores.
The Citadel has not traveled outside of Charleston since August 28 and has not left South Carolina yet this season. The Bulldogs come into Thursday's game off a 3-0 win over Bob Jones last Saturday with three goals in the second half that followed on from a 4-2 loss to Charleston Southern where the Bulldogs conceded three times in the second session. Southern Miss transfer Alice Williamson sits atop the scoring charts with three goals, and sophomore Adrianna Gill has two goals in the last three games, with her first collegiate tally coming September 4 against Gardner-Webb.
This is the 17th meeting between ETSU and The Citadel in women's soccer. The Bucs lead the series 12-3-1 and have won three straight matchups, including the last two in Charleston. ETSU has taken a penalty kick in the last two meetings, with
Ava Matherne scoring the game-winning goal in their last trip to Charleston on a spot kick in 2023, and
Natalie Capannelli scoring in the third minute to set off a 6-0 blowout in Johnson City last season.
