Bays records season-high 11 kills versus Clemson

The Bucs fall in three in the Gamecock Classic finale

COLUMBIA, S.C. - East Tennessee State women's volleyball closed out the 2025 Gamecock Classic with Clemson on Saturday evening.  The Bucs (0-3, 0-0 SoCon) fell to the Tigers (2-0, 0-0 ACC) in three sets.

Following the match, Makayla Bays was tabbed to the 2025 Gamecock Classic All-Tournament team.

NOTABLES
  • Makayla Bays, the sophomore outside hitter, led the program in kills for the third consecutive match.  Bays tallied 11 kills against Clemson for her season-high and average 3.67 kills/set.  Bays now owns 28 kills in the 2025 season at 3.11 kills/set.
  • Gianna Blair notched the first block solo for the Bucs this season, adding two kills and two block assists to her totals in the outing.  The redshirt-sophomore middle blocker has now started in all three matches thus far in the season.
  • Melanie Morris, the junior libero and defensive specialist, collected nine digs in the match for her season-high and the team-high in the contest, while dishing two aces.
  • Brianna Cantrell offensive and defensive production was second to just Bays and Morris in the match, collecting seven kills, seven digs, 11 perfect receptions and two aces.
  • Isabelle Iosua led defense at the net with four block assists, the single-match leader for the team three games into the 2025 campaign.  The senior right side hitter also collected her season-high in kills of eight against the Tigers.
  • Setters Alex Kreutzmann and Bailey Gohlke each accumulated 13 assists in the contest.
  • ETSU totaled 29 kills, 27 assists, four aces, 31 digs and 11 total blocks.
UP NEXT
The Bucs return to action in a split-host tournament in Cleveland, Ohio over September 5-6.  The squad is set to face American, Akron and Cleveland State.
