Mock Brown names McPherson Director of Basketball Operations

Becomes first ETSU alum on women’s basketball staff

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 1, 2025) – East Tennessee State University women's basketball head coach Brenda Mock Brown announced Braden McPherson as the team's new Director of Basketball Operations on Tuesday.

McPherson started working with the program during the 2023-24 season, his junior year of college, as a manager, before becoming the operations intern for the 2024-25 season. As the operations intern, he oversaw program travel and facilities.

That role will expand into complete oversight of travel, facilities, equipment, administrative support and more for the 2025-26 season.

"Braden has been working tirelessly for our program for two straight years and has taken care of his responsibilities with excellence," Mock Brown said. "He started as a manager and worked his way up to an operations intern position in our program this past season. The quality of his work, passion for winning, and the level of his investment in ETSU compelled me to interview him for our open Director of Basketball Operations spot and from there it was an easy decision."

"He seamlessly takes care of all  things behind the scenes so the players and coaches can do their jobs well and focus on winning games and building culture without distractions. The staff is excited to begin working with Braden in his new capacity and he is someone that will make all people around our program proud to cheer for the Buccaneers."

McPherson also gained experience working as a supervisor at ETSU's CPA for two years, and graduated summa cum laude with a 3.97 GPA in May 2025. He is the first ETSU alumni on Mock Brown's staff.

"I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to join this year's staff as Director of Basketball Operations," McPherson said. "I spent the past two seasons as a student manager and intern with ETSU women's basketball, so when the offer was extended, it was an easy decision. I want to give a special thanks to Coach Mock, our staff, the sport management faculty, and many others in campus leadership for welcoming me as a student and encouraging me to seek out opportunities at ETSU. I look forward to a great season, and as always, Go Bucs!"
