SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 27, 2025) – East Tennessee State University softball salvaged the series against Wofford behind a complete-game shutout from
Sara Muir to win 2-0 on Sunday.
Both pitchers started off strong, with just one hit allowed total in the first three innings. Muir allowed a leadoff single but settled in quickly, going three up, three down in the third and fourth.
On the flip side, the Bucs managed just two singles, from
Cameron Young and
Gracen Hinson, and a walk in the first six innings.
Wofford got a pair of runners on in the fifth, but was unable to capitalize with runners on the corners before Muir made it through the sixth cleanly.
In the top of the seventh,
Makayla Veglia was hit by a pitch and
Whitney Boone reached on a bunt single.
Leinani Lutu was then hit by another pitch to load the bases. Hinson recorded her first RBI of the season on a fielder's choice where every runner was safe before
Tiare Rieger gave the Bucs an insurance run with another RBI.
That was all Muir would need, as she allowed one baserunner in the seventh off a single but got a pair of strikeouts and a groundout to give the Bucs the 2-0 win.
Next, ETSU will end the regular season at home with a series against Chattanooga beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 3.
