Lopez leads Bucs versus Hokies

ETSU fell 55-73 in the 20th meeting of the squads

Box Score BLACKSBURG, Va. - East Tennessee State women's basketball (4-8, 0-0 SoCon) fell to the Virginia Tech Hokies (9-3, 0-0 ACC) on Sunday afternoon 55-73 in the 20th meeting of the two programs.

NOTABLES
  • Meghan Downing, the senior forward, collected the individual single game-high in rebounds for the Bucs this season with 12, just three from her career-high.  Downing tacked on eight points with two assists and one block while going 4-6 from the line.
  • Daniela Lopez was the leading scorer for the Bucs for the second time this season with her 14 points.  The junior guard went 5-9 from the field and 2-3 from the line for her double-digit points with four rebounds and two assists.
  • Graduate guard Anala Nelson posted her sixth flawless outing at the line, going 4-4 with one rebound, one assist and one steal.
  • Jaidyn Harper, the sophomore guard, was the next top scorer to Lopez with her 10 points from two field goals and two three pointers made, adding on one steal and three rebounds in the contest.
  • Sophomore guard Carmen Richardson led the team in assists with three, adding on four rebounds and nine points against the Hokies.
  • The team totaled 55 points, 38 rebounds, nine assists, three steals and one block with 13 of 14 members of the squad seeing minutes.
GAME FLOW
Q1
  • The Bucs got off to a hot start, outscoring the Hokies 16-10 in the first, with seven points making their way to the board from the paint.
  • Richardson was the dominant force in the first with two rebounds and the quarter-high of six points. 
Q2
  • Downing, Lopez, Harper and Lyons were the scoring contributors for the Bucs through the second frame, with Downing leading on defense with hre three rebounds.
  • The squad out-shot the ACC-foe 50% to 40% from range with a five point scoring run to end the quarter.
Q3
  • Lopez and Harper split the scoring efforts with five points apiece in the quarter while Downing led on defense with five rebounds, the most in a single quarter by a Buc this season.
Q4
  • Downing closed out the contest on a strong note with two rebounds, three points, one assist and one block as the top contributor from the squad in the final frame.

The Bucs return to action at home in Brooks Gymnasium on Thursday, December 18 at 7 p.m. versus Gardner-Webb for the final home contest of 2025.
