SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Nov. 9, 2025) – ETSU men's tennis players
Oscar Martinez and
Martin Vergara had a strong showing at this week's ITA Conference Masters Championships. The doubles team of Martinez and Vergara finished second in the doubles tournament, which clinched a spot for the ETSU duo in next week's ITA Doubles Championship in Orlando.
Martinez began ETSU's stay in San Diego by competing in singles. Martinez picked up a win over Rider's Matteus Frobert Dahlin in his opening round matchup. The Siena transfer then took the first set from UCLA's Emon van Loben Sels, who entered the tournament as the third-ranked player in the field, but the Bruin battled back to win the next two frames by identical 6-4 scores. With those results, Martinez wraps up an impressive fall for the Bucs posting a 17-2 record in singles action.
Moving onto doubles, Martinez and Vergara received a bye into the round of 16. The ETSU duo, which was seeded fourth before the tournament began, earned victories against duos from Illinois State and Old Dominion to move to Saturday's semifinal round.
In the semifinals, Martinez and Vergara won their match over Petro Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro by scores of 6-2 and 7-5. By winning that match, ETSU's doubles duo clinched a spot at the ITA Doubles Championship next week in Orlando. On championship final Sunday, the Bucs battled but dropped the title match, 6-1, 6-4.
