JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 21, 2025) – If
Cam Morris III and
Brian Taylor II keep doing this, they might have to come up with a name for it.
The veteran duo served up another pair of 20-point performances to pace ETSU to a 77-62 win over Morehead State on Friday to open the ETSU MTE presented by Abundant Christian Living Community. It is the second time in as many home games that the two have broken 20 points together.
The Buccaneers (4-1) found themselves behind early when the Eagles (2-4) went on a 7-0 run to stretch their lead out to 15-6 on a Davion Cunningham pull-up jumper in the paint with 11:34 left in the first half. The Bucs stopped the run when
Allen Strothers found
Blake Barkley on a hard baseline cut for a two-handed dunk,
Jaylen Smith hit a layup with 10:16 left to the break to cut the deficit to five. Morris and Taylor then scored ETSU's next 18 points with 11 straight by Taylor, the last of which put ETSU ahead 27-26 with 4:45 remaining in the first half.
Jordan McCullum scored the last six of the half for ETSU, including two explosive dunks with one seeing him sail head-and-shoulders above the rim in the final five seconds of the period to put ETSU in front 38-31 at the break, their largest lead of the game at that point.
Morehead State went on a 7-0 run to start the second half and tie the game at 38 before retaking the lead on an Anouar Mellouk layup with 14:52 left. Barkley tied the game at 47 with 10:34 left, starting an 18-2 run that put ETSU ahead to stay and had them up by 14 with 5:38 to go, and the Bucs added to their lead at the free throw line as the Eagles struggled to defend in the paint without fouling.
As a team, ETSU shot 44% from the field and made the same number of field goals (25) as free throws, going 25-for-33 from the line including 21-for-26 in the second half. The Bucs won rebounding 36-33 and dominated points in the paint 40-22. They turned the ball over just nine times to MSU's 18 and scored 27 points off turnovers.
Individually, Morris finished with 22 points and Taylor had 21. McCullum recorded the first double-double of the season for ETSU with 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Barkley also notched 12 points for his third double-figure scoring game this season. Strothers led ETSU with five assists, and Smith had three of ETSU's 12 steals.
ETSU returns to action at Freedom Hall on Sunday at 4:00pm against Louisiana-Monroe, while the Eagles play the Warhawks on Saturday at 6:00pm.
