Men’s Tennis wraps up fall slate at Wake Forest

ETSU totaled 17 wins this weekend in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Nov. 2, 2025) – In its final team competition of the fall season, the ETSU men's tennis team totaled 17 victories at this weekend's Wake Forest Invitational. ETSU was joined by host Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia, South Carolina, Cleveland State, North Carolina A&T, Georgia Southern, James Madison, Elon, UNC Greensboro and Charlotte this weekend in Winston-Salem.
 
The Buccaneers had three different players collect three singles victories on the weekend. Martin Vergara won matches against players from Wake Forest, South Carolina and Charlotte. Sophomore Carlos Gonzales also picked up a win against a player from the 49ers along with two more against foes from Elon. Finally, Kai Cowcher outlasted student-athletes from Virginia and VCU in three sets and tallied a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gregoire Delattre of Georgia Southern.
 
Cowcher and Gonzales teamed up to account for most of ETSU's successes in doubles as well. This tandem not only won all three of their doubles matches this weekend but they also improved to 5-0 this fall with paired together.

While this was the final full team competition for the Bucs this fall, a couple ETSU players will be back in action next week. Oscar Martinez and Vergara will represent ETSU and the SoCon at next week's ITA Conference Masters Championships in San Diego. Play for that tournament will begin on Thursday.
