CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Oct. 26, 2025) – The ETSU men's tennis team put together a stellar weekend at the SoCon Masters Qualifying Tournament in Chattanooga. ETSU clinched both the singles (Oscar Martinez) and doubles (Martin Vergara & Martinez) titles at the tournament. Those titles clinched a spot for those student-athletes at the ITA Conference Masters Championship next month in San Diego.
 
Both Martinez and Vergara saw plenty of success in singles this weekend in Chattanooga. Vergara won three matches to reach the championship final. Martinez, meanwhile, did the same winning matches against players from The Citadel, UNC Greensboro and Chattanooga. In a championship final featuring two Buccaneers, Martinez came away with the 7-5, 7-5 win. This win continues the fantastic fall for Martinez. Martinez, a transfer from Siena, is now 16-1 this fall in singles matches.
 
As for the doubles, Martinez and Vergara won their quarterfinal and semifinal matches by identical 8-3 final scores. They then clinched the title by winning 8-4 in the championship match on Sunday. Since being paired together on October 3, the duo of Martinez and Vergara are 10-1 with the lone setback coming at the ITA Regionals against a team from Louisville, 8-6.
