ETSU looks to carry momentum into Saturday showdown with Wofford

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 3, 2025) – Fresh off its record-setting performance in Wednesday's Southern Conference opener, the ETSU men's basketball team looks to carry momentum into Saturday's home game versus Wofford. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. inside Freedom Hall.

  • Seymour is one of 14 players this season to record a triple-double
  • John Buggs III also had a career day as he finished with 33 points on 10 made three-pointers … Buggs became just the third ETSU player with at least 10 made triples as Patrick Good sank a school record 11 at Western Carolina on Jan. 26, 2019, and Courtney Pigram made 10 against Mercer on Feb. 28, 2009

  • With Quimari Peterson netting a career-high 30 points at Kansas City and John Buggs III scoring a career-high 33 versus VMI, this marks the first time Buccaneer teammates had back-to-back 30-point games since March 4-6, 2009, when Kevin Tiggs scored 37 in the ASUN quarterfinal win over Stetson and Courtney Pigram had 30 points in the semifinal victory over Belmont … The last time a Buccaneer player had back-to-back 30-point scoring games was when Jalen Riley had 31-point games against Tennessee Tech (Feb. 16, 2015) and Chattanooga (Feb. 21, 2015)
  • John Buggs III ranks 14th nationally in made threes (47) and 21st in three-pointers made per game (3.4), while Quimari Peterson ranks 23rd in field goals made (100) and 49th in total points (255)
  • ETSU has won its last six games inside Freedom Hall and seven of its eight home games this season … In their eight home games this year, the Bucs are averaging 81.0 points and have a scoring margin of +16.8 … The Blue & Gold are shooting 48 percent (242-504), while averaging 17.0 assists and 8.6 steals per game … Quimari Peterson is averaging 17.8 points per game at home, while Jaden Seymour is posting 16.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per contest … John Buggs III is shooting at a 47 percent clip from the beyond the arc inside Freedom Hall (26-55)
  • Jaden Seymour scored his 1,000th career point and 1,000th point as a Buccaneer in the win over USC Upstate on Nov. 22 … Seymour became the 43rd 1,000-point scorer in program history and now is 29th in program history with 1,146 career points … Seymour needs 12 points to pass Marcus Reese (1981-84) for 28th, 25 to pass Hal Morrison (1951-54) for 27th and 35 points to climb past Micah Williams (2006-11) for 26th … Overall, Seymour has 1,157 points with 11 of those coming during his freshman season at Wichita State.
  • ETSU was picked to finish third in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll … The Bucs picked up two first-place votes, while reigning champion Samford was pegged number one and Chattanooga was selected second
  • Jaden Seymour and Quimari Peterson landed SoCon preseason honors
  • The Bucs return 10 players from last year's 2023-24 roster
  • ETSU only lost 8% of its scoring and 9% of its minutes played from last year's roster to the transfer portal – the fewest amount of production from any SoCon program

  • Wofford sits 6-8 overall and 0-1 in SoCon play
  • The Terriers, who have won two of their last three, are coming off a 68-66 home setback to UNCG on Saturday
  • Corey Tripp led the Terriers with 17 points, five rebounds and five assists against the Spartans, while Kyler Filewich registered a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds
  • Filewich leads the SoCon with six double-doubles and he has accomplished the feat three times in his last four games
  • Filewich is averaging 10.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, while Corey Tripp leads the team with 13.7 points per contest
  • As a team, Wofford is averaging 74.1 points and allowing 70.6 per game
