LYNCHBURG, Va. – East Tennessee State University fell 3-1 to Virginia on Thursday.
The Cavaliers were led by Brooklyn Borum, who tallied a ten kill and 11 dig double-double, along with three aces. Kadynce Booth also had eight kills.

Amanda Lowe led the Bucs with 13 kills and eight digs. Graduate setter
Reese Rhodes added a trio of aces.
The Cavaliers won a competitive first set 25-22. The two squads opened to a 9-9 tie before UVA took a lead and pushed it to as many as four points before ETSU rallied to tie the set at 22. Borum notched one of her five kills of the set to give Virginia the lead, and they took the final two points to win.
ETSU flew out of the gate in the second set, jumping out to a 5-0 lead behind all three of Rhodes' aces and an 11-3 lead behind a pair of aces from senior middle blocker
Abbey Thomas, forcing the Cavaliers to take both of their timeouts in the set. The Bucs' momentum extended for the rest of the set, running away with a 25-15 victory.
The Blue & Gold's momentum stalled in the third set. Virginia answered ETSU's strong start with one of their own, getting an initial 12-2 lead and won the set 25-13. In the final set, UVA used an 11-1 run to take control of the set. The Bucs battled, drawing back within five, but ultimately fell 25-18 to drop the match and set.
The loss drops ETSU to 4-3 on the season. Next, the Bucs play at 1 p.m. on Sept. 13 against tournament host Liberty.
