FORT WORTH, Texas (July 16, 2024) – After one of the best offensive seasons in program history, ETSU's
Cameron Sisneros was selected in the 14
th round (422
nd pick) in the 2024 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday afternoon.
"I am excited for Cam and his family," said ETSU Head Baseball Coach
Joe Pennucci. "He is a tremendous worker and a skilled young man. Cam has a bright future and it's going to be fun to watch!"
Sisneros is ETSU's second draft pick in as many years as
Austin Emener was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 16
th round in 2023. It marks the first time that ETSU has had an MLB Draft pick in consecutive seasons since 2013 (Kerry Doane – Cleveland) and 2014 (Clinton Freeman – Dodgers, Chris Riopedre – Nationals).
Furthermore, Sisneros is ETSU's 55
th selection or signee with an MLB organization. Sisneros is the fourth Buccaneer to be drafted by the Cubs joining Jeff Andrews (1981 – 25
th round), Lendon Hart (1996 – 37
th round), and Paul Hoilman (2011 – 19
th round).
As mentioned earlier, Sisneros put together one of the best offensive seasons in the history of ETSU baseball in 2024. Sisneros led ETSU in slugging percentage (.766), RBI (86), multi-RBI games (22), home runs (23), and total bases (164). His 86 RBI broke the single season program record in that category, while his 23 home runs were the second-most ever by a Buc in a single campaign. Hitting .369 with an OPS of 1.259, Sisneros earned SoCon Player of the Year honors by the league's media members. He is the first ETSU player to earn conference player of the year honors since 2010 when Paul Hoilman garnered the same recognition in the Atlantic Sun. Sisneros is the first SoCon Player of the Year for ETSU since 2004 (Caleb Moore). Sisneros ended his time with ETSU by reaching base in 79 straight games and ended the season with more home runs (23) than strikeouts (20). Last month, Sisneros landed a spot on the ABCA's All-Region Second Team.
