COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (April 17, 2024) – Stepping out of conference play with a midweek game at Tennessee Tech, the ETSU softball team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Golden Eagles on Wednesday night at Tech Softball Field.
Brylee Mesusan and
Faith Adams each had two-hit games as the Buccaneer duo manufactured ETSU's lone scoring play in the sixth inning. Following a leadoff single, Mesusan moved to second on a bunt single by
Riley Nayadley and Adams drove in the Buccaneer outfielder with an RBI single through the right side on a 3-2 pitch.
Unfortunately, that was all the offense ETSU could muster, and Tennessee Tech secured the five-run victory.
The Golden Eagles got on the board with a solo home run by Carmen Betts in the bottom of the third, while Tennessee Tech added three runs in the fifth and tacked on two more in the sixth.
ETSU went down fighting in the seventh as
Olivia Absher led off with a single to left and moved to third on
Maddison Stowell's double down the right field line. However, Emily York got out of the inning unscathed as she retired the next three Buccaneer hitters to secure her seventh save of the season after tossing the last three innings.
Kendall Thackston got the start and took the loss (0-3) after allowing the one run on three hits with one walk in three innings.
Taylor Suchy entered in relief and issued three runs on four hits with three walks, while Gabby Fowler pitched one inning and allowed two runs to score. Tennessee Tech's Payton Wagner earned the win (7-3) after tossing two innings of one-hit ball in relief.
With her two hits, Mesusan has now registered 14 games multi-hit games and she has reached base in her last eight contests.
ETSU dropped to 9-27 with the loss, while Tennessee Tech improved to 18-18.
The Bucs return to SoCon play this weekend when ETSU hosts Samford in a three-game series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
