ABOUT THE BUCS
  • ETSU is coming off a 65-57 loss on the road at Mercer on Thursday night. Thursday's loss moves ETSU's overall record to 15-8 on the season, which includes a 4-4 record in SoCon play.
  • Nevaeh Brown continues to be the Bucs' most consistent offensive player. Brown netted a team-high 19 points to go with seven rebounds against the Bears. Brown has now led ETSU in scoring 11 times this season. She has been especially good in conference play as she leads ETSU in scoring (118 points), 3-point field goal percentage (.474), assists (22) and steals (12).
  • Another Buccaneer that has stepped up lately has been Meghan Downing. Downing set a new career-high with 12 points against Mercer. The sophomore from Ohio has also been one of the league's more consistent shot blockers as she ranks fourth in blocks per game (1.00).
  • A factor to watch on Saturday will be how well the Bucs fare in rebounding. In the matchup against Samford earlier this season, ETSU grabbed a season-high 47 rebounds. Additionally, the Bucs are 12-1 this season when they out-rebound their opponents.
  • The Buccaneers rank 14th in the nation and second in the SoCon in scoring defense (55.0 PPG). ETSU has held opposing teams to under 60 points in 16 of its 23 games. In their clash with Samford in mid-January, the Bucs held the Bulldogs to 40 points.
  • ETSU also leads the SoCon in the fewest fouls per game (14.0). Additionally, the Bucs are second in the SoCon in opponent field goal percentage (.371) and overall winning percentage (.652).
  • A couple of players to watch for ETSU on Saturday will be Kendall Folley and Brecken Snotherly. Folley scored a career-high 28 points against Samford in ETSU's last trip to Birmingham. Snotherly, meanwhile, also had a career night scoring against the Bulldogs as she netted 15 points in ETSU's win over the Bulldogs earlier this season.
  • Courtney Moore, who led ETSU with 17 points vs. Samford in January, needs to make just three more 3-pointers to reach 150 in her collegiate career.
ABOUT SAMFORD
  • Samford enters Saturday's matchup with the Bucs with an 11-12 overall record that includes a 3-5 mark in SoCon play.
  • The Bulldogs will look to snap a three-game losing skid on Saturday. Samford fell its last time out to Chattanooga by a score of 55-39.
  • Even with two of those three losses occurring on their home floor, Samford still boasts a 9-3 record in Birmingham this season.
  • A couple of players to watch for Samford are Emily Bowman and Sadie Stetson. Bowman is the SoCon's leading shot blocker with 62. Her 62 blocks also rank eighth in the country in 2023-24. As for Stetson, she is second in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (.418), 3-pointers made (51) and 3-pointers made per game (2.22).
  • The all-time series between the Bucs and Bulldogs is deadlocked at 11-11. ETSU knocked off Samford by a score of 57-40 on January 11 in Johnson City. ETSU, which has won its last three games against the Bulldogs, is looking to sweep the season series from Samford for the first time since 2018.
UP NEXT
ETSU will return home to Brooks Gym and start a three-game home stand next week. The first contest in the string of home games will be next Saturday when the Bucs welcome in longtime rival Chattanooga. Tip-off for that game is set for 2 p.m.
