ABOUT THE BUCS
- ETSU dropped a 56-41 decision to league-leading Chattanooga last Saturday. With Saturday's setback, the Bucs moved to 16-9 overall and 5-5 in SoCon play.
- With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Bucs are fourth in the SoCon standings. ETSU is just a half game behind its opponent on Thursday, UNCG, for third place.
- Even with Saturday's loss to Chattanooga, the Bucs are 10-3 at home in 2023-24. If the Bucs win either on Thursday or in its home finale on Saturday vs. Western Carolina, it'll be their most home wins since 2014-15 when they totaled 11 victories in Johnson City.
- ETSU's defense continues to be a strong part of its team. After holding the Mocs to 56 points on Saturday, the Bucs rank 12th in the country in scoring defense (55.0 PPG). Furthermore, ETSU is the lone SoCon team to hold Chattanooga to under 60 points in both matchups this season.
- Nevaeh Brown has taken her game to another level this month. In five games so far in February, Brown is averaging 16.2 points per game. Brown's scoring average is tied for second in the conference this month with Mercer's Summah Evans and behind only Wofford's Rachael Rose (24.0 PPG).
- Another Buccaneer to see a boost in February has been Breanne Beatty. Beatty has made 11 3-pointers this month, which trails only Wofford's Rose (14) and Mercer's Evans (12). Thanks to those 11 makes, Beatty now leads ETSU with 36 3-pointers made this season. Additionally, Beatty made five threes in the game earlier this season vs. Thursday's opponent, UNC Greensboro.
- A couple of Buccaneers are nearing 150 career 3-pointers entering Thursday's game. Courtney Moore needs to make just three more to reach this milestone, while Beatty needs just two more. Beatty also needs to score just 19 more points to reach 1,100 for her collegiate career.
ABOUT UNC GREENSBORO
- Entering this week's play, UNC Greensboro sits third in the SoCon standings with a conference record of 6-5 and a 17-9 mark overall. The 17 wins for UNCG is its most wins in a season since the 2019-20 campaign.
- UNCG has been a very different team away from home in 2023-24. At home, the Spartans are 14-1 with the lone loss coming to league-leading Chattanooga, 73-55, in late January. On the road, UNCG is just 3-8.
- The strength of the Spartans' team lies in its defense. UNCG ranks 19th nationally in scoring defense allowing 55.8 points per game.
- A player to watch for UNCG on Thursday is Jayde Gamble. Gamble is not only the Spartans' leading scorer (13.1 PPG) but also is the SoCon leader in steals (60).
- The all-time series between the Bucs and Spartans is tied at 22-22. UNCG knocked off the Bucs, 54-50, earlier this season in Greensboro. ETSU, however, has won two of the last three games played in Johnson City between these two programs.
