ABOUT THE BUCS
- ETSU recorded a 69-56 win on the road at Samford last Saturday. Saturday's win improves the Bucs' record to 16-8 this season and 5-4 in league play.
- The Buccaneers matched a season-high with 19 made free throws against the Bulldogs. ETSU, which also made 19 free throws against Mercer (Jan. 13) and Furman (Feb. 1), are now 14-1 this season when it makes more free throws than their opponent.
- Nevaeh Brown led the way for the Bucs in the win over the Bulldogs. Brown, who has led the Bucs in scoring four straight games, recorded her fourth 20-plus point outing in Saturday's win finishing with 20 points.
- Thanks to her recent stellar play, Brown now ranks among the top five in the SoCon in field goal percentage (5th - .430), points (4th – 338) and points per game (4th – 14.1).
- With a couple more blocks on Saturday, Meghan Downing has moved up to third in the SoCon in blocks per game (1.04). Downing has totaled at least one block in 14 games this season.
- As we continue to move through the second half of the conference schedule, the Bucs continue to shoot efficiently from the field. In nine conference games so far, ETSU ranks second behind only Chattanooga in field goal percentage checking in at .424. Chattanooga leads the SoCon at .464.
- ETSU had one of its best days offensively on Saturday scoring 69 points and shooting 51.1 percent from the field. The only game this season that the Bucs shot a higher percentage from the field than they did on Saturday was on December 6 vs. Charleston Southern (.517).
- Even though they dropped their last game in Johnson City to Wofford, ETSU is still 10-2 this season at home. The Bucs join Chattanooga (1), Wofford (1) and UNC Greensboro (1) as SoCon teams that have two or fewer losses on their respective home floors this season.
- Courtney Moore remains three 3-pointers away from 150 in her ETSU career. Moore has connected on at least one shot from beyond the arc in 17 games this season.
ABOUT CHATTANOOGA
- Chattanooga enters Saturday's game with the Bucs with a 21-3 overall record and a perfect 9-0 mark in SoCon play. The Mocs have won 10 games in a row and are a perfect 8-0 in road games this season.
- Keys to the Mocs' stellar season to this point have been their defense and ability to shoot/defend the 3-pointer. Chattanooga is sixth nationally in scoring defense (53.8 PPG) and 21st in the country in 3-point defense (.267). Offensively, the Mocs check in at 15th in the nation in 3-point shooting checking in at 37 percent.
- The Mocs also lead the SoCon in field goal percentage (.456), free throw percentage (.778), scoring margin (10.9) and overall winning percentage (.875).
- A player to watch for the Mocs is Jada Guinn. Earlier this week, Guinn took home her fourth SoCon Player of the Week award after averaging 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in wins over Samford and Mercer. Overall, Guinn is averaging 18.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season.
- Chattanooga and ETSU have matched up 95 times over the years, including once earlier this season that ended with the Mocs winning, 52-50. The Mocs are 70-25 all-time against the Bucs, including a 30-14 mark in Johnson City. ETSU is aiming to break a four-game losing skid to the Mocs and its first win over Chattanooga in Johnson City since 2019.
UP NEXT
ETSU will remain home next week as it welcomes in UNC Greensboro on Thursday night. Tip-off for that matchup is set for 7 p.m.
