ETSU moves to 0-4 on the season with Saturday's results

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (Feb. 10, 2024) – The ETSU softball team dropped a pair of games on day two of the Runnin' Bulldog Classic. The Bucs fell to Delaware in their first game before falling to Youngstown State in game two, 7-2.

Game One Recap – Delaware jumped out to an early 4-0 lead against the Bucs in the first game of the day and did not look back on their way to a win.

ETSU's lone run in the contest came via an RBI groundout in the third inning by Riley Nayadley. Nayadley and Cameron Young, who scored on the ground out, both had two hits to pace the Buccaneer offense. Sara Muir, Taylor Suchy, Maddison Stowell and Halle Laramie also recorded hits against the Blue Hens.

The Buccaneers used two pitchers in the circle against Delaware. Muir got the loss after allowing five runs on six hits in three innings of work. Suchy pitched the final three innings and allowed one run on three hits to go with three strikeouts.

Game Two Recap – After two scoreless innings to begin the game, ETSU would strike first in its second game of the day with an RBI ground out by Tiare Rieger in the top of the third. However, the Penguin offense woke up and scored seven runs (five in the third) in the next two innings to pull in front. The Bucs got a run back in the fifth with an RBI single by Young, but YSU held on for the 7-2 win.

Young recorded her second two-hit performance of the day going 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Brylee Mesusan, Grace Hinson and Suchy also logged hits against the Penguins.

Cameron Lauretta made her collegiate debut in the circle. She worked the first 3.1 innings and allowed seven runs on 10 hits. Suchy again came in a provided solid relief tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit.

Next Up – ETSU will close out the first weekend of the season tomorrow afternoon when it takes on Gardner-Webb. First pitch for Sunday's game is set for Noon.
