Bucs head to Charlotte for Thanksgiving Eve matinee

ETSU eyes second straight win over team from Queen City

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Nov. 26, 2024) – The ETSU men's basketball team looks to feast a day early as the Buccaneers head to the Queen City to take on Charlotte in a Thanksgiving Eve matinee. Tip-off is set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. inside Halton Arena.

ABOUT THE BUCS
·      ETSU is 4-2 after defeating USC Upstate and Queens over the weekend in the ETSU MTE
·      The Bucs defeated USC Upstate 87-76 on Friday and took down Queens 82-68 on Sunday
·      Quimari Peterson was named Southern Conference Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the two games inside Freedom Hall
·      Jaden Seymour, who averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in the MTE, scored his 1,000th career point and 1,000th point as a Buccaneer in Friday's win over USC Upstate … Seymour became the 43rd 1,000-point scorer in program history and now ranks 41st in program history with 1,019 career points … Overall, Seymour has 1,030 points with 11 of those coming during his freshman season at Wichita State
·      Peterson and Seymour rank second and fourth in the SoCon in scoring … Peterson is averaging 19.5 points per game and Seymour is at 17.8 per contest … The duo also ranks fifth and sixth in the league in field goal percentage with Peterson hitting at a 54.8 percent clip and Seymour is at 54.4 … Eleven different conferences have teammates in the top five in scoring through this point of the early season
·      ETSU has made at least one three-pointer in 1,165 straight games – the third-longest streak in the country
·      ETSU is playing teams from the same city in back-to-back games for the first time since Feb. 20-22, 2014, when the Bucs played Jacksonville and North Florida in Jacksonville … The Bucs, who defeated Queens on Sunday, is looking to win back-to-back games against schools from the same city since Jan. 23-25, 2014, when ETSU defeated North Florida and Jacksonville inside the Mini Dome
·      ETSU's Jaden Seymour (Charlotte) and Karon Boyd (Concord) will be making their Homecoming on Wednesday … Seymour played at Northside Christian Academy where he was ranked No. 20 in North Carolina coming out of high school … Boyd played at Cannon High School where he averaged 14.2 points, 12.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists in his senior season … Boyd led Cannon to the Class 4-A state title
·      ETSU was picked to finish third in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll … The Bucs picked up two first-place votes, while reigning champion Samford was pegged number one and Chattanooga was selected second
·      Jaden Seymour and Quimari Peterson landed SoCon preseason honors

·      The Bucs return 10 players from last year's 2023-24 roster

·      Charlotte is 3-2 through its first five games of the season
·      The 49ers fell 79-76 to Long Island last time out on Saturday
·      Charlotte's wins have come against Gardner-Webb, Richmond and Presbyterian
·      The 49ers are averaging 72.6 points and allowing 72.6 per contest
·      Charlotte has three players scoring in double figures with Nik Graves leading the team at 16.6 per game … Robert Braswell IV, a Syracuse transfer, is posting 15.0 per contest and Giancarlo Rosado is at 13.2 per game
·      Rosado leads the team in rebounding at 7.4 per contest

SERIES HISTORY
·      Wednesday marks the sixth all-time meeting between ETSU and Charlotte with the Bucs holding the 3-2 series lead
·      This is the first meeting since Nov. 8, 2013, when the 49ers won 80-75 in the Queen City
·      Prior to that setback, ETSU had won three straight in the series, including a 70-69 win on Nov. 22, 2011, on three-pointer by Jarvis Jones at the buzzer … The Bucs rallied from a 10-point second half deficit – and after DeMario Mayfield missed two free throws with 12 seconds remaining – Adam Sollazzo grabbed the rebound, found Tommy Hubbard on the right wing who penetrated into the lane and found Jones open in the corner for the game-winner … That marked Jones' only points of the game, while Isiah Brown had 16 points, Tommy Hubbard added 14 points and six rebounds and Marcus Dubose netted a game-high 26 points
·      ETSU's other wins in the series came on Feb. 16, 1991, when the Bucs took down Charlotte, 96-80, and ETSU won 73-71 on Jan. 6, 1973, in Johnson City
·      The first-ever meeting was played in the 1971-72 season where Charlotte won, 75-68
