GREENVILLE, S.C. (Nov. 2, 2024) – The ETSU men's and women's cross country teams completed the trek at the Southern Conference Championships on Saturday morning from the Furman Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.
Senior
Rebekah Howard paced the women, while
Dane Sullins was the first Buccaneer runner to cross the finish line for the men. Howard finished in 15th with a personal best time of 17:32.5 on the 5K course. Sullins completed the 8K course with a time of 26:13.0.
The women had five runners finish in the top 25 en route to placing fourth with 97 points.
Camryn Johnson (17th, 17:50.5),
Bonita Gray (21st, 17:56.1),
Deena Ludtke (24th, 18:04.6) and
Sophie Beach (25th, 18:05.9) were the top five runners for the Blue & Gold. All four of the runners also turned in personal bests with Johnson taking a full minute off her previous best 5K mark of 18:51.2, set at last month's Louisville Classic.
At the post-race ceremony, Ludtke earned a spot on the all-freshman team.
The Buccaneer men – who dealt with numerous injuries and sickness all fall – were only able send five healthy runners to Greenville. In result, ETSU finished eighth with 231 points.
The other four countable scores on the men's side came from
Nolan Pedota (42nd, 26:52.2),
Colin Everett (59th, 27:35.5),
Hayden Waleski (60th, 27:40.5) and
Conner Overly (64th, 28:12.9).
All five Buccaneer runners on the men's side were making their SoCon Championship debut on Saturday.
Furman made it a clean sweep on both the men's and women's side. The men, who are ranked No. 23, were led by Dylan Schubert (23:40.1), while the women were paced by Carly Wilkes (16:09.7). The men posted 15 points and the 20th-ranked women's team totaled 19 points.
The Bucs will now gear up for the 2024 NCAA South Regional, which will be held Friday, Nov. 15 in Tallahassee, Fla.
